New Communities Learning Together (CLT) Fact Sheet
The CAEAR Foundation offers training in fiscal management and
organizational development for Ryan White Program funded grantees
and sub-grantees; specifically, Part A and Part B sub-grantees,
Part C grantees and sub-grantees, and Part D grantees and sub-grantees.
This training is provided through a creative approach to adult
learning and skills building called Learning Communities.
Definition of Learning Community: Method of providing
training and TA, based on Adult Learning Principles that includes
more than one face-to-face training or TA opportunity, builds
upon the strengths of a community as a way to identify and address
challenges, is provided to similarly situated organizations,
and includes experiential learning activities. Learning Communities
are provided around a specific training or TA topic common to
the needs of the group with training participants deciding on
training topics. This method of training provides a feedback
loop for learning through more than one face-to-face meeting/training
and draws on the previous experience and knowledge of participants
to learn and share as group.
What does the training package include?
Each series of CLT trainings includes:
- Two (2), two (2)-day face-to-face trainings;
- One (1) 90-minute training using web-based technology;
- A tailored curriculum for each topic area presented;
- USB drives with relevant resources, practical tools
and templates; and
- An opportunity to learn from experts in the field
about relevant organizational development and fiscal management
approaches.
As part of the CLT trainings, organizations also have the opportunity
to complete an organizational assessment survey based on key elements
of organizational capacity. A detailed report is generated that
highlights organizational strengths and challenges and areas to
target for capacity-development efforts. The results of the survey
are also used to identify the specific needs of organizations in
attendance to tailor the trainings accordingly.
Where are the trainings provided?
Each year, the trainings are provided to two cities or regions in
the United States through an application process. The 2006-2007
CLT trainings took place Miami, FL and Chicago, IL.
How does my city/region apply for the CLT trainings?
Cities or regions interested in collaborating with CF to bring the
CLT trainings to their area should download and complete the CLT
partnership application.
Communities that identify a need for group training in the areas
of organizational development and fiscal management and demonstrate
committed interest from at least 15-20 organizations receiving Ryan
White Program funding are encouraged to submit an application.
Completed applications can be submitted by email or fax. Please
email completed applications to robert@caear.org.
Please fax complete application to (202) 232-6750.
Who will be selected?
Working with local stakeholders completing the partnership application,
the CAEAR Foundation will identify, assess, and select recipients
within the selected area to receive training and technical assistance
based on several factors. These factors include, -among others,
reported need for assistance, cross-title representation, populations
served, HIV-related services provided, and a stated commitment to
actively participating in the CLT series of trainings.
What fiscal management and/or organizational development content
